Facebook introduces 'i' button to help reduce fake news distribution on their site
The button will also access trending articles or related articles about the topic, and information about how the article is being shared by people on Facebook. If the information is not available, Facebook will notify the user
The social media giant Facebook has been trying hard to fight fake news on its platform but to no avail. Soon after Las Vegas shooting earlier this month, Facebook’s trending topic page for the Las Vegas shooting featured two posts from a propaganda outlet. There were also claims that it displayed news from unverified sources.
Consequently, the California-based company has introduced a new feature which will help a user learn about the publisher of the news. From now onwards, news posts will carry an ‘i’ button. The button will access generally available information such as Wikipedia entry about the publishers.
The button will also access trending articles or related articles about the topic, and information about how the article is being shared by people on Facebook. If the information is not available, Facebook will notify the user.
